**Las Vegas, NV** – Lionsgate announced a new addition to the wildly successful *John Wick* franchise at CinemaCon today: an animated prequel film. This R-rated animated feature will delve into John Wick’s past, exploring the infamous “Impossible Task” – a single-night massacre that secured his freedom from the High Table.
The film will be directed by Shannon Tindle (*Ultraman: Rising*) and penned by Vanessa Taylor (*The Shape of Water*), with Keanu Reeves returning to voice the titular character. The project reunites the core production team behind the live-action films, including Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road, Chad Stahelski of 87Eleven Entertainment, and Reeves himself.
The announcement comes on the heels of *John Wick: Chapter 4*’s massive box office success, grossing over $440 million globally. This animated prequel promises to expand the *John Wick* universe, capitalizing on the franchise’s existing popularity and appeal to mature audiences.
“In both animation and the world of John Wick, the possibilities are endless,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson. Stahelski added that anime has been a major influence on the *John Wick* series, and that the medium offers exciting opportunities to expand the story’s scope.
