Thu Apr 03 14:02:24 UTC 2025: ## Udupi Court Denies Bail to Repeat Offender in Cattle Theft Case

**Mangaluru, April 3, 2025** – A 25-year-old Moodbidri resident, Safwan, has been denied anticipatory bail by a Udupi court in connection with a recent cattle theft case. The court cited Safwan’s extensive criminal record as the primary reason for the denial.

According to police reports, Safwan is accused of being involved in the theft of four oxen in Karkala on February 23rd. He was named as accused number 3 in the case filed by the owner, Sulochana. The court’s decision, handed down on February 28th, highlights the gravity of Safwan’s past offenses.

The prosecution presented evidence detailing eight criminal cases registered against Safwan in Udupi district and three more in Mangaluru, emphasizing his history of absconding and the non-bailable nature of the charges. The judge, A. Samiulla, expressed concerns that granting bail would allow Safwan to commit further offenses and evade prosecution. The judge stated that Safwan’s history as a habitual offender and the ongoing investigation, with other suspects still at large, made granting bail too risky. The court determined that there was a significant likelihood of Safwan absconding if released.
