**PANAJI, GOA –** Indian cricket sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal has made a surprising career move, leaving the Mumbai state team to join Goa ahead of the next domestic season. The decision, confirmed by officials from both the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and the Goa Cricket Association (GCA), follows a request from Jaiswal for a No Objection Certificate (NOC). While the MCA cited personal reasons for the transfer, speculation surrounds the move, particularly given Jaiswal’s recent struggles in the IPL 2025.
Jaiswal, who recently returned from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, played for Mumbai in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. His move to Goa follows a similar path taken by other Mumbai players, including Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad. The GCA has welcomed Jaiswal and hinted at the possibility of him captaining the Goa team when not on national duty. “He wants to play for us and we welcome him,” Goa Cricket Association’s secretary Shamba Desai told PTI. “He plays for the Indian cricket team so he can be the captain and we will work in the direction to appoint him.”
The young opener’s performance in the ongoing IPL 2025 has been underwhelming, with only 34 runs in three matches for the Rajasthan Royals. His struggles extend beyond this season, showing a concerning increase in dismissals within the first three overs of an innings. His overall IPL 2024 performance, while featuring 435 runs, lacked the explosive centuries and fifties seen in previous years. Analysts are pointing to a decrease in his attacking shot percentage as a potential factor contributing to his recent slump. The move to Goa could offer a fresh start and opportunity for the talented batsman to rediscover his form.
