**New Delhi, [Date]** – The Indian government has appointed Dr. Poonam Gupta as the new Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), effective immediately. Dr. Gupta, currently the Director General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), will serve a three-year term, succeeding Michael Patra who retired in January. She is also a recipient of the 1998 EXIM Bank award for her doctoral work. Currently, she serves as a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and the Advisory Council of the 16th Finance Commission.
