Wed Apr 02 11:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Real ID Enforcement Begins May 7: Pennsylvania Residents Urged to Act Now

**Harrisburg, PA** – Starting May 7th, Pennsylvanians will need a Real ID or other federally acceptable identification to board domestic flights and enter federal buildings. While obtaining a Real ID is not mandatory, it will be required for these purposes. A valid passport will continue to be accepted for international travel.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is encouraging residents to obtain their Real IDs ahead of the deadline. To obtain a Real ID, residents must provide specific documentation, which can be found on the PennDOT website.

To assist residents, PennDOT is holding special “Real ID Days” on Mondays, typically non-business days for driver’s license centers. These days are dedicated exclusively to Real ID processing. Regular driver’s license services will also be available during normal business hours.

The initial Real ID costs $30, plus the standard renewal fee. The expiration date will incorporate any remaining time on the existing license, plus an additional four years (unless the applicant is over 65). Renewal of a Real ID will only require the usual renewal fees. For a complete list of Real ID Days and further information, visit the PennDOT website.
