Wed Apr 02 09:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Padres Start Season 6-0, Shutout Guardians in Dominant Display

**SAN DIEGO, CA** – The San Diego Padres made history Tuesday night, defeating the Cleveland Guardians 7-0 to achieve a 6-0 start to their season – a franchise best in their 57-year history. The previous best start was 4-0 in 1984.

Power pitching spearheaded the victory. Michael King, rebounding from a rough opening day, struck out 11 batters in five dominant innings, allowing only two hits and a walk. He was effectively backed by four relievers, who combined to toss a two-hit shutout. Lefty Omar Cruz made a memorable major league debut, pitching a perfect ninth inning. The Padres bullpen extended its scoreless streak to an impressive 24 innings.

Offensively, Jackson Merrill provided the spark, hitting a solo home run in the fourth inning – his first of the season. Merrill, an All-Star in 2024, has now recorded at least one hit in all six games this season.

Guardians starter Logan Allen pitched well, going seven innings, but couldn’t overcome the Padres’ strong pitching and timely hitting. Allen allowed four runs on four hits, five walks, and one strikeout.

The series concludes Wednesday with a pitching matchup between Ben Lively for the Guardians and Dylan Cease for the Padres.
