**Mumbai, India –** The Indian Navy’s frigate INS Tarkash has successfully intercepted and seized over 2,500 kilograms of narcotics in the Western Indian Ocean, officials announced Wednesday. The operation, launched following intelligence received on March 31 regarding suspicious vessel activity, involved a coordinated effort between INS Tarkash, a P8I marine surveillance aircraft, and the Maritime Operations Centre in Mumbai.
After identifying a suspect dhow, INS Tarkash deployed its onboard helicopter for surveillance and dispatched a specialist boarding team, including Marine Commandos. A thorough search of the dhow uncovered over 2,386 kilograms of hashish and 121 kilograms of heroin concealed within various cargo holds.
The dhow and its crew were apprehended by INS Tarkash, and are currently undergoing questioning to gather further intelligence on their operations and potential links to larger smuggling networks. The successful operation underscores the Indian Navy’s commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region.
