**Vijayawada, April 2, 2025** – The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena Party (JSP), key allies in Andhra Pradesh’s ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), have pledged their support for the contentious Waqf Bill, 2025, scheduled for parliamentary debate on Wednesday. This ensures the bill’s passage, bolstering the NDA’s majority.
With 16 MPs from the TDP and 2 from the JSP in the Lok Sabha, along with 3 BJP MPs, the NDA will command 21 votes in favor of the bill. The TDP, having submitted six amendments (four of which were accepted by the Joint Parliamentary Committee), will not oppose the legislation. TDP floor leader Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu confirmed the party’s support. Similarly, JSP President and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan voiced his confidence in the bill, highlighting the JPC’s thorough review and the need to update the outdated British-era Waqf Act.
Despite potential internal dissent, both parties are expected to vote in favor of the bill, solidifying the NDA’s position. Protests against the bill were witnessed in Vijayawada on Saturday, led by members of the All-India Muslim Personal Law Association.
