Wed Apr 02 07:20:00 UTC 2025: **Samajwadi Party Chief Slams BJP’s Wakf Bill as a Diversionary Tactic**
NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday vehemently opposed the Wakf Bill in Parliament, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using it to deflect attention from its failures. Yadav claimed the bill is a ploy to distract from internal BJP conflicts, particularly the ongoing struggle to determine who is the “biggest Hindu” within the party, highlighted by their inability to elect a national president.
He further criticized the BJP’s handling of past issues, including the demonetization policy, citing the continued emergence of unaccounted cash. He broadened his criticism to encompass the BJP’s perceived failures in tackling unemployment, inflation, and environmental issues like the Ganga and Yamuna river cleaning projects. Yadav also questioned the government’s response to the missing pilgrims during the Kumbh Mela, demanding a list of the missing persons.
Yadav highlighted a specific incident where artists portraying characters from the Ramayana were flown to Ayodhya, but omitted Hanuman, allegedly due to his caste and religion. He stated this incident is representative of the BJP’s selective appropriation of religious figures and traditions, contradicting the inclusive nature of India’s diverse culture.
Yadav also questioned the BJP’s motives behind the Wakf Bill, alleging it’s designed to divide society and promote polarization, potentially facilitating the transfer of Wakf lands to BJP supporters. He accused the BJP of consistently introducing new bills to mask its shortcomings and failures. His remarks included pointed criticism of the BJP’s apparent lack of women candidates in Bihar.
