NEW DELHI, April 1, 2025 – The Lok Sabha is set to consider the Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024, aimed at boosting domestic maritime trade, and the amended Waqf Bill today. The Business Advisory Committee will also meet to decide the legislative agenda. A report by the Standing Committee on External Affairs, focusing on the Indian diaspora, will be presented by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and BJP MP Mitesh Patel Bakabhai.

In the Rajya Sabha, the Tribhuvan Sahkari University Bill, 2025, will be introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has demanded a three-hour parliamentary debate on the Election Commission of India, citing concerns over its conduct and alleging suppression of Opposition voices. He criticized the government for stifling discussions on public issues raised by Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge.

Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed the government’s readiness to table the Waqf Bill, despite opposition from several political parties and Muslim organizations who deem it unconstitutional.
