Tue Apr 01 04:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Telangana’s New Ration Card Distribution to be Completed Soon

**Hyderabad, April 1, 2025** – The Telangana government is accelerating the process of issuing new ration cards, aiming to complete the distribution by the end of April. While approximately 1.26 lakh beneficiaries have already been selected, officials are working to process an additional 4.32 lakh applications.

The delay in issuing new cards has caused concern among applicants, many of whom have been waiting since the Congress government took office 16 months ago. The state government uses ration cards as the basis for several welfare schemes, including access to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The process has been further complicated by the high volume of applications (approximately 18 lakh) received through various channels, including Mee-Seva centers and Prajavani.

Although new card printing has not yet begun, the Civil Supplies Department issued tenders on March 11th for the printing of PVC QR code smart ration cards. The tender process is ongoing, adding further uncertainty to the timeline.

Despite the ongoing delays, Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has assured that individuals whose names appear on the beneficiary list will receive the new fine rice being distributed as part of a government program, starting from Ugadi. This announcement has provided some relief to anxious applicants. However, questions remain about whether those who applied as single individuals will be included in the existing list of 1.26 lakh or added to the 4.32 lakh still under review. The final number of beneficiaries is expected to be between 5 and 5.5 lakh, significantly lower than the initial number of applications. The government continues to receive applications, indicating that the final number of new ration cards may increase slightly. The process is being expedited to ensure completion before the end of April.
