Tue Apr 01 09:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Twin Tornadoes and 80mph Winds Wreck Havoc Across Indiana and Michigan

**Syracuse, IN – April 1, 2025** – Severe thunderstorms packing winds up to nearly 80 mph and two confirmed tornadoes caused widespread damage across northern Indiana and southern Michigan on March 25th, 2025. The National Weather Service (NWS) Northern Indiana office (IWX) reported significant damage from straight-line winds, including downed trees, power lines, and substantial structural damage to homes and businesses.

The NWS confirmed two EF-1 tornadoes. The first, with peak winds of 110 mph, traveled 3.32 miles through Starke and Marshall counties, damaging Ancilla College and overturning a mobile home, resulting in one injury. The second EF-1 tornado, with 100 mph winds, carved a 2.06-mile path through Cass County, Michigan, damaging Edwardsburg Primary School and the Starboard Choice Marina.

In Elkhart County, Indiana, over 30 buildings sustained damage from falling trees. A trailer home in Steuben County was even shifted off its foundation, causing one injury. Numerous reports detailed snapped trees and power lines falling onto vehicles and homes, and even wooden shards impaling the ground.

NWS IWX conducted damage surveys in several Indiana and Michigan counties, with preliminary findings indicating widespread straight-line winds of 70-80 mph. These surveys are ongoing and will continue to update the NWS website.

Hail up to one inch in diameter was also reported, along with minor agricultural flooding. Most areas received less than an inch of rain.
