**KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA** – A massive fire erupted near Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday morning, injuring at least 112 people and damaging dozens of homes during the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday. The blaze, visible for miles, stemmed from a gas pipeline leak belonging to state-owned energy giant Petronas in the Putra Heights suburb of Selangor state.

The explosion and subsequent fireball occurred around 8:10 am local time, sending shockwaves through the surrounding area. Residents reported feeling tremors and hearing a loud bang before evacuating their homes. At least 49 houses were damaged, with 63 individuals hospitalized for burns, respiratory issues, and other injuries. Selangor Deputy Police Chief Mohamad Zaini Abu Hassan confirmed that while no fatalities have been reported, rescue efforts are ongoing.

Selangor’s chief minister stated that 82 people have been rescued and are temporarily housed in a nearby mosque. Petronas has confirmed that the affected pipeline has been isolated, a move disaster management officials say will eventually extinguish the fire. While three nearby gas stations were unaffected, they have been temporarily closed as a precaution. An investigation into the cause of the leak is underway. The incident unfolded during a public holiday, exacerbating the impact on the affected communities.
