**Kodaikanal, April 1, 2025** – The new mandatory e-pass system for entering the Kodaikanal hill station saw 4,307 tourists arrive on its first day of implementation, Tuesday. A total of 806 vehicles, including cars, buses, and two-wheelers, carrying the approved e-passes entered the hill station.
While 8,755 vehicles had applied for e-passes, indicating a potential influx of 50,594 passengers, only a fraction utilized the system on the first day. The daily limit for e-passes is set at 4,000 for weekdays and 6,000 for weekends and holidays. Dindigul District Collector S. Saravanan urged visitors to obtain e-passes concurrently with booking accommodations to avoid entry delays.
Initial hiccups were reported, with some out-of-state visitors lacking e-passes and several vehicles found carrying banned plastic water bottles. Officials assisted visitors with obtaining e-passes on site. The system, implemented following a High Court directive, aims to manage tourist traffic and ensure smoother entry into the popular hill station.
