**New Delhi, April 1, 2025** – A Delhi court has ordered the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Delhi Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra and others, to investigate their alleged involvement in the 2020 Delhi riots. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasia ruled that a prima facie case existed, necessitating a full probe.
The judge’s decision followed a plea by Yamuna Vihar resident Mohammad Ilyas, who sought the FIR. Delhi Police had opposed the plea, arguing that Mr. Mishra played no role in the riots. However, the court stated that evidence suggests Mr. Mishra was present in the area at the time of the alleged offences, thus warranting further investigation. This ruling comes after twelve other accused in the 2020 Delhi riots were recently acquitted.
