**Erode, Tamil Nadu, March 30, 2025** – Two workers tragically died from suffocation while cleaning a chemical tanker in Konavaikal near Bhavani, Erode district, on Sunday. Chandran (62) and Yuganandan (50) were cleaning the empty tanker, which had previously transported aluminum chloride, when they succumbed to toxic fumes. A third worker, Chellappan (52), also suffered suffocation but was rescued and hospitalized in critical condition.
The tanker had delivered aluminum chloride from Hyderabad to a Tiruppur dyeing company before returning. The driver parked the vehicle at Sri Bharani Service Centre, where the three workers began cleaning the tank. Emergency services were called when all three workers lost consciousness. Fire and Rescue Services personnel, equipped with safety gear, entered the tank and retrieved the workers, but Chandran and Yuganandan were declared dead upon arrival at the Government Erode Medical College and Hospital in Perundurai.
The Chithode police are currently investigating the incident. The aluminum chloride, used in effluent treatment plants, is believed to have left behind hazardous residues. The investigation will focus on safety protocols and potential negligence that may have contributed to the deaths.
