**Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh – March 30, 2025** – The father of a woman raped by self-styled godman Asaram has expressed grave concerns following the granting of a three-month interim bail to the convicted rapist. Asaram, currently serving a life sentence for rape under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, was granted bail by the Gujarat High Court on medical grounds.
The victim, who was 16 at the time of the 2013 assault at Asaram’s Jodhpur ashram, and her family now fear for their safety. Her father claims Asaram’s repeated bail grants – including previous interim bails of seven days, 12 days, and two and a half months – indicate manipulation of the legal system. He alleges that Asaram’s lawyers have been granted repeated favorable court rulings. He further stated that his family’s lawyer failed to file an objection to the bail application despite receiving all necessary documents.
Asaram’s lawyer argued the 86-year-old requires a three-month Ayurvedic treatment for heart and kidney ailments. The father alleges Asaram has been traveling freely across multiple cities, meeting followers, and that the family is now in increased danger.
In response to the concerns, local authorities have increased security measures around the survivor’s home, including deploying a guard, providing two gunmen, and installing CCTV surveillance. Police are monitoring the area to ensure the family’s safety. Asaram was convicted in 2018 and again in 2023 for separate rape cases. The granting of this bail has reignited outrage amongst the victim’s family and sparked public debate about the judicial process.
