**KOCHI, March 29, 2025** – The Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (Kufos) has announced a ₹35.5 crore budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, a ₹2 crore increase from the previous year. The university cites increased growth in education and research as the reason for the budget boost. A significant portion of the funds, ₹15 crore, will be allocated to infrastructure development, with a primary focus on upgrading facilities at the Payyannur Fisheries College.

Further investment includes ₹9.6 crore for improving educational facilities across its four faculties, ₹7.5 crore for research activities, and ₹1.6 crore for extension programs. Kufos, ranked 56th globally in the Entrepreneurship Spirit category, also secured the first Atal Incubation Centre dedicated to fisheries.

The university’s commitment to research expansion is evident through new Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with national and international universities and research institutions. Vice-Chancellor T. Pradeepkumar highlighted the launch of two new postgraduate programs last year and emphasized the budget’s role in supporting sustainable development in education, research, and extension.
