**Jammu, March 29, 2025** – A two-day gun battle in Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, resulted in the deaths of four policemen and two Pakistani militants, believed to be affiliated with the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) group. The operation, which began on Thursday, March 27, concluded with the recovery of the bodies of head constable Jagbir Singh and the two militants on Saturday, March 29. The bodies of three other slain policemen, Balwinder Singh Chib, Jaswant Singh, and Tariq Ahmed, were recovered on Friday.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah attended a wreath-laying ceremony for head constable Jagbir Singh in Jammu, paying tribute to the fallen officers. The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Minister Satish Sharma, and Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, along with other senior officials from the civil administration, police, and security forces.

The DGP confirmed that the militants were part of a group intercepted near the International border on March 23 but managed to escape. He stated that the security forces are continuing the search operation in adjoining areas to eliminate any remaining militants. While further gunfire and explosions were heard near the encounter site on Saturday morning, authorities clarified these were controlled detonations of recovered explosives and deliberate actions by security forces as part of their counter-terrorism strategy. A significant amount of arms and ammunition was recovered from the encounter site.

The DGP emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to combating terrorism, vowing that the fight against militancy will continue relentlessly.
