**Los Angeles, CA** – Marvel Studios has unveiled a star-studded cast for *Avengers: Doomsday*, the highly anticipated fifth Avengers film slated for release May 1, 2026. The film, directed by the Russo brothers, reunites iconic heroes with surprising additions and shocking returns from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and beyond.

The biggest surprise? Robert Downey Jr.’s return, not as Iron Man, but as the villainous Doctor Doom. Downey himself confirmed the news at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, stating, “New mask, same task. I like playing complicated characters.” The Russos have praised Downey’s dedication to the role, revealing his involvement in crafting the character’s backstory and costumes.

Returning heroes include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and Letitia Wright as Black Panther. Tom Hiddleston will also reprise his role as Loki, despite the character’s death in *Infinity War*.

Notably absent from the announced cast are the Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, the Hulk, and Hawkeye. Marvel has yet to comment on their potential involvement. The film also features Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Namor), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Lewis Pullman (Bob – a mysterious new character), and Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost).
