Fri Mar 28 05:47:04 UTC 2025: ## Kasaragod Bauxite Mining Project Moves Forward After Preliminary Survey
**KASARAGOD, March 28, 2025** – A preliminary survey has been completed for a proposed bauxite mining operation in the Narlam area of Kasaragod, Kerala. The survey, led by State Mining and Geology Additional Director M.C. Kishore, assessed the feasibility of mining bauxite deposits identified across 150 hectares of forest land. The survey involved officials from the Revenue and Forest departments.
A detailed survey is scheduled to begin next week and conclude within a month. This will be followed by a report to the state government. Mining is planned to be restricted to rocky areas within the forest, avoiding residential areas, places of worship, and fertile soil. Officials estimate at least 100 hectares will be suitable for extraction, with mining reaching a depth of approximately five meters. The land will be reclaimed for agriculture and other uses after mining is completed.
While bauxite deposits have also been identified in the Ukkinadukka block, primarily on privately owned land, the initial mining phase will focus on the Narlam forest area to address public concerns. The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has confirmed commercially viable bauxite deposits in several Kasaragod locations. Following sample testing in Ukkinadukka, a high-level committee headed by the Industries department Principal Secretary will oversee the bidding process for mining rights.
