Fri Mar 28 11:53:54 UTC 2025: **ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India to Build Massive Steel Plant in Andhra Pradesh**

VISAKHAPATNAM, Andhra Pradesh – March 28, 2025 – ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) announced today the commencement of its acquisition of land in Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh, for a new state-of-the-art integrated steel plant. The ₹1,47,162 crore ($18 billion USD approx.) project, located in Rajayapeta, will initially have a capacity of 7.3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), scaling up to 17.80 MTPA in subsequent phases. This expansion is expected to create 100,000 jobs.

The project is a significant step towards India’s goal of reaching a 300 MTPA crude steel capacity by 2030, aligning with the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) initiative. The Andhra Pradesh government has allocated approximately 2,200 acres of land for the first phase.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu welcomed the investment, emphasizing the state’s commitment to supporting the project and its contribution to economic development. Lakshmi Mittal, Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal, and Aditya Mittal, Chairman and CEO of AM/NS India, expressed their pride in the project and thanked the Andhra Pradesh government for its cooperation. Minister Nara Lokesh, chairman of the task force for generating 20 lakh jobs in AP, also welcomed the investment and reiterated the government’s commitment to facilitating the project’s progress. The initial land payment has been made, and construction is expected to begin shortly.
