Thu Mar 27 12:29:11 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Announces Electricity Tariff Reduction Ahead of Ugadi
**Bengaluru, March 27, 2025** – Karnataka electricity consumers will enjoy lower tariffs in the coming years, the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) announced Thursday. The news, released ahead of the Ugadi festival, comes as part of the first multi-year tariff (MYT) order.
The biggest relief is for Low Tension (LT) – I consumers, who will see a 10 paise per unit reduction in energy charges. This brings the cost down from ₹5.90 per unit in 2024-25 to ₹5.80 for 2025-26. The rate will remain at ₹5.80 for 2026-27 and drop slightly to ₹5.75 for 2027-28. However, fixed charges will increase incrementally over the three years.
Industrial and commercial consumers (High Tension (HT) – II) will also benefit from a reduction in energy charges, falling from ₹6.90 to ₹6.60 per unit for the next two years, and further to ₹6.50 in the third year.
The KERC’s decision is expected to provide significant financial relief to households and businesses across the state.
