Thu Mar 27 12:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Six Feared Dead in Red Sea Submarine Disaster

**Hurghada, Egypt –** At least six people are feared dead following the sinking of a tourist submarine off the coast of Hurghada, Egypt, early Thursday morning. Nine others were injured, with four in critical condition, and 29 were rescued. All passengers aboard the *Sindbad* submarine are believed to be Russian nationals, according to the Russian embassy in Egypt.

The *Sindbad*, a vessel reportedly capable of carrying 44 passengers and operating tourist trips to depths of 25 meters (82 feet), sank close to the Hurghada harbor. The cause of the sinking remains under investigation. The Russian embassy reported that the incident occurred approximately 0.6 miles from shore at around 10:00 AM local time.

This is the second major maritime incident off the Egyptian coast in the past six months. In November, the tourist boat *Sea Story* sank near Marsa Allam, resulting in 11 deaths or disappearances. Survivors of that incident questioned the Egyptian authorities’ explanation of severe weather as the cause.

The frequency of these incidents has raised concerns about safety regulations and enforcement in the popular Red Sea tourist areas. While initial reports from Egyptian officials suggested six fatalities, the Russian embassy has confirmed at least four deaths, and further casualties are feared. The BBC is working to confirm the exact number of casualties and the precise circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
