Tue Mar 25 11:07:15 UTC 2025: ## Trump Appoints Controversial Lawyer Alina Habba as Interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey

**Trenton, NJ – March 25, 2025** – President Donald Trump has appointed Alina Habba, his former defense attorney, as the interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey. Habba, who turns 41 today, replaces John Giordano, who will become the U.S. ambassador to Namibia.

Habba, a partner in a New Jersey law firm and a senior advisor to Trump’s political action committee, has served as Trump’s spokesperson and defended him in various civil lawsuits. However, her appointment has sparked controversy due to her limited federal court experience and past legal missteps.

Habba’s legal career has included representing Trump in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case, where Judge Lewis A. Kaplan criticized her for procedural errors and legal inaccuracies. She and Trump were also fined nearly $1 million for filing a frivolous lawsuit against Hillary Clinton. Her experience primarily lies in state-level courts.

Despite this, Habba expressed her eagerness to work with Attorney General Pam Bondi to advance the president’s agenda and tackle crime in New Jersey. She criticized the state’s Democratic leadership, citing crime rates in cities like Newark and Camden. However, officials in Camden recently reported a 55-year low in violent crime, while Newark officials acknowledged a decrease in homicides but an increase in other crimes.

The appointments of both Habba and Giordano are effective immediately. Representatives for Senators Cory Booker and Governor Phil Murphy have yet to comment on the appointment.
