Bidar, Karnataka – Minister for Animal Husbandry and Sericulture K. Venkatesh urged newly graduated animal husbandry and fisheries science students to contribute to rural development in Karnataka. Speaking at the 14th convocation of Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU) on March 25th, Venkatesh highlighted the crucial role of these sectors in rural empowerment. He emphasized the need for graduates to support farmers with technical expertise, enabling economic stability and national development.

The Minister cited government initiatives like Pashu Bhagya, Ksheera Bhagya, and Meenu Siri, stressing the importance of graduate involvement in their success. He also addressed the issue of livestock diseases, emphasizing the graduates’ vital role in the National Animal Disease Control Programme. Venkatesh noted the significant contribution of animal husbandry and fisheries to Karnataka’s economy, citing 2.9 crore cattle and 1.6 million people employed in the fisheries sector. The event was attended by prominent figures including Naveen Kumar, Director of the National Institute of Virology, Pune, and K. C. Veeranna, Vice-Chancellor of KVAFSU.
