Tue Mar 25 18:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Local Teenager, Joshua Blackledge, Dies at 16

**Newport, NC –** The community is mourning the loss of Joshua “Josh” Jeremiah Blackledge, a 16-year-old West Carteret High School junior, who passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 18th, at his home.

Blackledge was an active member of the school’s wrestling and track teams, and possessed a vibrant spirit known for his energetic personality and impressive backflips. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly fishing and boating, and shared a passion for cars and trucks. At home, he was known for his willingness to help his mother with cooking, gardening, and yard work.

A celebration of life will be held to honor Josh’s memory on Sunday, March 23rd, at 2:00 PM at Camp Albemarle (156 Albemarle Dr, Newport, NC 28570). He is survived by his parents, Jonathan and Jackie Blackledge, and his brother, Josiah Blackledge, all of Newport. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
