**Jerusalem, March 25, 2025** – Hamdan Ballal, a Palestinian co-director of the Oscar-winning documentary “No Other Land,” was brutally attacked by Israeli settlers and subsequently detained by Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank on Monday.

According to the Centre for Jewish Nonviolence, dozens of settlers stormed the Palestinian village of Susiya in the Masafer Yatta area, vandalizing property and assaulting Ballal, leaving him with a head injury. While receiving medical treatment in an ambulance, both Ballal and another Palestinian man were apprehended by Israeli soldiers. Their current location remains unknown.

“No Other Land,” which received the Academy Award for Best Documentary this year, details the ongoing struggle of Masafer Yatta residents against the Israeli military’s efforts to demolish their homes. The film is a collaborative effort between Ballal, fellow Palestinian co-director Basel Adra, and Israeli directors Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor.

The attack has sparked outrage among human rights activists who condemn the violence against Palestinian civilians and the subsequent detention of Ballal. The incident highlights the ongoing tensions and conflict in the West Bank.
