**NEW DELHI, March 25, 2025** – Delhi University (DU) has been hosting a series of events promoting the “One Nation, One Election” initiative, sparking debate about their political neutrality. Over the past week, seminars, talks, and youth parliaments have focused on the proposed constitutional amendment enabling simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

The events have involved various groups, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation (SPMRF), the National Service Scheme (NSS), and a student organization, Samvidhan Support Group (SSG), with speakers often affiliated with the BJP or its youth wing. While organizers claim the events are purely academic and part of ongoing programs, a DU professor (speaking anonymously) expressed concerns about the involvement of BJP-linked individuals and the pressure to host these programs.

A university official countered that given the government’s proposal, DU is the appropriate platform for discussion. However, this echoes concerns raised last year when similar “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) programs were criticized as violations of the Model Code of Conduct. The timing of these events, coinciding with the ongoing review of the proposed constitutional amendment by a Joint Parliamentary Committee, has fueled further speculation about their political motivations.
