**Kozhikode, Kerala, March 24, 2025** – The Kozhikode Corporation presented a ₹1,397 crore budget for the 2025-26 financial year, showcasing a range of innovative projects aimed at improving the city’s infrastructure, cultural landscape, and citizen well-being. Deputy Mayor C.P. Musafar Ahamed, also head of the Finance Standing Committee, presented the budget, which projects a surplus of ₹347.88 crore against an expected revenue of ₹1,744.89 crore.

This budget prioritizes health and hygiene, allocating ₹101.72 crore for drainage improvements. Significant funds are also earmarked for road repairs (₹46.79 crore), building maintenance (₹10.28 crore), market infrastructure (₹9.68 crore), and street lighting (₹7.53 crore).

Several novel initiatives reflect Kozhikode’s UNESCO City of Literature status, including a proposed Literary Museum honoring M.T. Vasudevan Nair and a ₹3 crore investment in exploring literary tourism. Other key projects include:

* **Waste Management:** Resource recovery facilities, a refuse-derived fuel plant, a construction waste processing plant, and robotic beach cleaning.
* **Youth Initiatives:** The “Kuttikal Kalikkatte” (Let the children play) campaign to combat drug abuse and violence, augmented reality labs in schools, and gender facilitation clubs.
* **Social Welfare:** A rehabilitation project for South Beach residents, a shelter for guest laborers, a respite care center for differently-abled children, a women’s old age home, and special industrial clusters for women.
