Mon Mar 24 20:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Gauff Triumphs Again in Miami, Defeating Sakkari to Reach Round of 16

**Miami, FL** – Coco Gauff continued her dominant run at the Miami Open, securing a hard-fought 6-2, 6-4 victory over Maria Sakkari on Saturday. The win propels the 21-year-old American into the Round of 16, silencing critics after a string of disappointing results earlier in 2025.

Gauff’s Miami campaign has been a resounding success thus far. She previously demolished Sofia Kenin with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in a mere 47 minutes. While the Sakkari match proved more challenging, Gauff’s win marked her second consecutive victory over the Greek player, following a previous win at Indian Wells. The head-to-head record now stands at 5-5.

“I knew it wasn’t going to go as smoothly,” Gauff commented, acknowledging the difference between her two matches against Sakkari. She attributed her success to both her improved performance compared to Indian Wells and Sakkari’s altered game strategy.

Gauff also expressed her gratitude to the enthusiastic Miami crowd, writing “When I die, bury me in the sun” – lyrics from Dominic Fike’s song, “Sunburn” – on the camera lens after her win.

The victory marks several milestones for Gauff. She is now the youngest player to reach back-to-back Round of 16 appearances at the Miami Open since Garbine Muguruza in 2012-2013. Additionally, she’s become the youngest player to achieve 75 main draw wins in WTA-1000 events since 2009 and boasts the most hard-court wins in WTA-1000 events before turning 22.

Meanwhile, Sakkari’s loss adds to a recent string of setbacks for the 29-year-old, who is currently ranked No. 51. Gauff will face Magda Linette in the Round of 16 on Monday.
