Tue Mar 25 05:52:11 UTC 2025: ## Fadnavis Reveals 2014 BJP-Shiv Sena Rift Over Seat Sharing
**Mumbai, March 25, 2025** – Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis revealed new details about the breakdown of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in the 2014 Assembly elections. Speaking at an event Monday night, Fadnavis stated that the alliance fractured over a disagreement on seat allocation.
The BJP, initially planning to contest 127 seats, offered the Shiv Sena 147 seats, according to Fadnavis. However, the Shiv Sena’s demand for 151 seats proved insurmountable, leading to the breakdown of negotiations. Fadnavis claimed the BJP was confident of winning over 200 seats and had offered the Chief Minister’s post to the Shiv Sena in exchange for the BJP taking the Deputy CM position.
Fadnavis recounted discussions with senior BJP leaders Amit Shah and Narendra Modi, expressing frustration at the Shiv Sena’s stance. He added that it seemed “destiny” had planned for him to become Chief Minister.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut countered Fadnavis’ claims, suggesting that senior BJP leaders had orchestrated the alliance’s collapse, despite Fadnavis’ personal preference for maintaining the partnership. Raut also highlighted the intense, 72-hour negotiations over seat allocation.
The two parties contested the 2014 elections separately, later forming a government under Fadnavis’ leadership. However, their alliance fractured again after the 2019 elections, and the Shiv Sena itself split in 2022. Fadnavis’ account provides further insight into the long and complex history of the BJP and Shiv Sena’s tumultuous relationship.
