Mon Mar 24 12:58:33 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Opposition Criticizes Congress Government’s Budget Allocation for Welfare Schemes

**Hyderabad, March 24, 2025** – Opposition parties in Telangana are sharply criticizing the Congress government’s handling of the 2025-26 budget, alleging a disconnect between large allocations for welfare schemes and the actual disbursement of funds. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), BJP, and MIM have accused the government of failing to deliver on its promises, leaving intended beneficiaries without the promised assistance.

During Monday’s assembly session, lawmakers debated the budget’s allocations for key sectors including welfare, IT, and industries. BRS member K.P. Vivekanand demanded a white paper detailing the status of promised investments totaling ₹1.78 lakh crore, secured after Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s visit to Davos. He questioned the number of stalled projects and the impact of contradictory government statements, citing a decline in IT job creation from 1.2 lakh in 2022-23 to 41,000 in 2023-24.

BJP MLA Payal Shankar echoed concerns about the state’s financial health, questioning the government’s ability to fund its welfare initiatives given outstanding retirement benefits and medical reimbursement claims. He highlighted delays in Amrut scheme payments and the denial of NREGS benefits due to delayed state funding.

MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi pointed to a significant disparity between budgeted allocations for welfare schemes and actual expenditure. He cited figures showing a drastic shortfall in the number of beneficiaries receiving economic support, with only a fraction of the targeted individuals receiving assistance. He also criticized the absence of sub-plans for backward classes and minorities in the budget, despite previous election promises. Owaisi drew a comparison with Andhra Pradesh, which has introduced such sub-plans with statutory backing. The opposition’s concerns underscore anxieties about the efficacy of the government’s welfare programs and the overall financial stability of the state.
