**Bhalabadrapuram, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh –** A cluster of suspected cancer cases in the village of Bhalabadrapuram has prompted a major health investigation. Following concerns raised by Anaparthi MLA Nallamilli Ramakrishna Reddy in the state Assembly on March 20th, authorities launched a two-day door-to-door survey.
The survey revealed that 23 villagers are currently suffering from various types of cancer, with eight receiving treatment outside the village. A further 38 residents displayed symptoms suggestive of cancer and require further medical diagnosis to confirm their condition.
A team of doctors from the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (HBC&RC), Visakhapatnam, arrived on Monday to investigate the potential causes of the high incidence of cancer. They will conduct cancer screenings alongside doctors from the Government General Hospital, Rajamahendravaram, Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada, and G.S.L. Hospital. The MLA has urged villagers to cooperate fully with the medical teams. East Godavari District Collector P. Prasanthi confirmed the findings and emphasized the need for thorough medical examinations for all those with suspected symptoms. The investigation is ongoing.
