DHAKA, BANGLADESH – Former Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal was hospitalized after suffering a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League match on Monday. The 36-year-old, leading Mohammedan Sporting Club, participated in the toss but later complained of chest pain.
After receiving initial on-field medical attention, Iqbal was rushed to a hospital in Savar. A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) medical officer reported that Iqbal’s heart function has since improved. The BCB postponed its scheduled meeting and several board members visited Iqbal at the hospital.
Iqbal, a highly decorated cricketer with over 15,000 international runs across 391 matches (2007-2023), is the only Bangladeshi batsman to score centuries in all three international formats (Tests, ODIs, and T20Is). Team officials are urging the public to pray for his speedy recovery.
