Sat Mar 22 21:01:11 UTC 2025: ## Las Cruces Mass Shooting Leaves Three Dead, Fifteen Injured

**Las Cruces, NM –** A mass shooting at Young Park in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on Friday night left three dead and fifteen injured. The incident occurred during an unauthorized car show that drew approximately 200 people. Police responded to the scene around 10 p.m. to find a chaotic situation with multiple gunshot victims.

The victims ranged in age from 16 to 36. Two 19-year-old men and a 16-year-old boy died at the scene or en route to hospitals. Seven victims were treated at the scene, while eleven others were transported to local hospitals and the University Medical Center of El Paso. As of Saturday, seven injured individuals remained in El Paso, four had been released, and the condition of the remaining four was unknown.

Las Cruces Police Chief Jeremy Story stated that between 50 and 60 handgun shell casings were recovered, suggesting multiple shooters and weapons from two groups with prior animosity. The police chief acknowledged that while unauthorized car shows are common at the park, understaffing prevented a sufficient police presence on Friday night. New park security technology remains un-installed.

Authorities are appealing for any video footage or information from those present at the car show to assist in the investigation, which involves local police, New Mexico State Police, the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The investigation is ongoing, and the area remains closed.

Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez and City Councilor Johana Bencomo issued statements expressing grief and urging community support for the victims and their families. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham also commented on the tragedy, highlighting the state’s recent efforts to address gun violence and high crime rates, while expressing disappointment over the lack of progress in juvenile justice reform. The shooting has cast a somber shadow over these ongoing legislative efforts.
