**HARTFORD, CT –** Solomon “Solo” Ball, the University of Connecticut sophomore guard, is embracing his moniker and ready to make a name for himself in the NCAA Tournament. Once teased for his last name in elementary school, Ball now thrives under the perfectly fitting nickname “Solo Ball,” a name frequently announced during UConn games. In fact, the only time he finds it jarring is when announcers use his full name, Solomon. “When people call me Solomon it just throws me off,” he admitted.
Ball, a 6-foot-3 sharpshooter, leads UConn in scoring with 14.6 points per game and boasts a 42.2% three-point shooting percentage, ranking him 19th in Division I. His 95 three-pointers this season place him sixth all-time in UConn single-season history, trailing only a few legendary players. Coach Dan Hurley has compared Ball to former UConn star Jordan Hawkins, highlighting his impressive shooting ability and potential.
Ball’s success isn’t solely due to talent; he attributes his improved performance to a dedicated mental training regimen. He starts each day with 10 minutes of breathing exercises and listens to meditation sounds before games to maintain focus and composure.
This year’s tournament marks a significant step for Ball, who last year only saw limited playing time. Now a key player for UConn, he’s prepared to lead his team, beginning with their first-round matchup against Oklahoma. “I’ve been working my whole life for this,” Ball said. “This is kind of an opportunity you get that you just dream of as a little kid. I’m more excited than anything.” His performance will be crucial in determining how far the Huskies advance in March Madness.
