**Mumbai, India** – Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya missed the IPL 2025 season opener against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) due to a BCCI-imposed ban for slow over-rate offences. Pandya received a ₹30 lakh fine and a one-match ban after his team’s third such offense this season. The BCCI has since replaced match bans for captains with the ICC’s demerit points system.

Meanwhile, the absence of star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah continues to cast a shadow over MI’s campaign. Bumrah, recovering from an injury sustained in December 2024, is undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.
