Sun Mar 23 06:48:20 UTC 2025: ## India Poised for Global Trade Surge, Outpacing Global Growth: DHL Report

**New Delhi, [Date]** – India is projected to become a major force in global trade over the next five years, contributing significantly to world trade growth, according to a new joint report by DHL and the New York University Stern School of Business. The DHL Trade Atlas 2025 forecasts India will account for approximately 6% of global trade growth, trailing only China (12%) and the United States (10%).

The report highlights India’s impressive trade volume growth, which increased at a compound annual rate of 5.2% from 2019 to 2024, significantly outpacing the global average of 2%. This rapid growth is attributed to India’s robust macroeconomic expansion and increasing engagement in international trade. By 2025, India is expected to climb 15 places to 17th in the “speed dimension” ranking, while maintaining its third-place ranking in overall scale.

Despite being only the 13th largest trading nation in 2024, India’s trade-to-GDP ratio nearly matches China’s, and surpasses it when considering both goods and services trade. This is further bolstered by substantial foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments in India’s manufacturing sector, making it the second-largest recipient of greenfield FDI globally in 2023 (after the US).

The report emphasizes the strong growth potential of emerging Asian economies, including India, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines, with South and Southeast Asia predicted to outperform other regions in trade growth. This is driven by ongoing supply chain diversification, solidifying Asia’s role as a pivotal player in the global marketplace.

While acknowledging global economic volatility, DHL Express executives expressed cautious optimism about India’s future, highlighting its strategic position as a crucial link between East and West. The substantial FDI influx and strong growth trajectory suggest India is well-positioned to realize its ambitious trade goals.
