Sat Mar 22 19:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Cunard’s Queen Anne Takes Security Precautions in Southeast Asian Waters

**Manila, Philippines** – Passengers aboard Cunard’s luxury liner, the Queen Anne, were advised to take precautionary measures last week as the vessel transited a historically piracy-prone area of Southeast Asia. During its maiden world voyage, the 114,000-ton ship passed through the Sulu-Celebes Sea, between Darwin, Australia, and Manila.

The captain issued a safety warning to passengers, informing them that heightened security measures would be in place due to the region’s past association with piracy and terrorism. These measures included closing external promenade decks overnight, minimizing external lighting, and requesting passengers to keep their stateroom lights and curtains closed when not in use.

While the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism previously classified the area as a “hotbed” for criminal activity, the threat level has been downgraded. No abductions have been reported since January 2020. A Cunard spokesperson emphasized that the precautionary announcements were standard maritime procedure for certain regions and that there was no specific threat to the ship or its passengers. The cruise, which began in Germany in January, continued uninterrupted. The incident highlights the ongoing vigilance required in certain global shipping lanes, even with reduced threat levels.
