Sun Mar 23 14:44:37 UTC 2025: ## Kozhikode Issues Dengue Alert Amidst Summer Showers
**Kozhikode, Kerala, March 23, 2025** – The Kozhikode Health Department has issued a warning about a potential increase in mosquito-borne diseases, particularly dengue fever, due to intermittent summer showers. According to a recent advisory from the District Medical Officer (DMO), stagnant water is providing ideal breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes, the vectors of dengue.
The advisory urges residents to eliminate stagnant water, focusing on areas such as ornamental plant pots, air conditioner trays, and refrigerator trays. A “dry day” initiative is being implemented, calling for schools to participate on Fridays, offices and institutions on Saturdays, and households on Sundays. Individuals are also encouraged to take personal precautions.
The department identified several areas as dengue hotspots based on data from January to July 5, 2023, including Koduvally Municipality and several grama panchayats. Common dengue symptoms include fever, headache, eye pain, muscle and joint pain, and red rashes. Patients are advised to rest, consume easily digestible foods like gruel and tender coconut water, and sleep under mosquito nets during the day. The health department emphasizes that a second dengue infection carries a higher risk of severe complications.
