Sun Mar 23 11:30:40 UTC 2025: ## Nagpur Curfew Lifted After Religious Violence

**Nagpur, Maharashtra –** A six-day curfew imposed in parts of Nagpur following violent clashes on March 17th has been fully lifted, officials announced on Sunday, March 23rd. The unrest, sparked by false rumors of a holy inscription being burned during a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal protest, resulted in widespread stone-pelting, arson, and injuries to 33 police officers.

Curfew was initially imposed across eleven police station areas. While some restrictions were eased earlier in the week, the final four areas saw the curfew lifted at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Police are maintaining a strong presence in sensitive areas.

Over 105 arrests have been made in connection with the violence, with 14 more apprehended on Sunday. Three new FIRs have also been registered. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has vowed to recover damages from the rioters, employing bulldozers to seize property if necessary. He dismissed claims of intelligence failure and stressed that those who attacked police officers would face strict action. The unrest occurred as Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Nagpur, a significant hub for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), approaches, prompting a heightened focus on restoring normalcy in the city.
