Sat Mar 22 15:40:00 UTC 2025: ## IPL’s Most Expensive Overs: A Look Back at Bowling Disasters

**Mumbai, India** – The Indian Premier League (IPL) is known for its high-octane action and record-breaking performances. While batsmen often steal the limelight, some bowlers have etched their names in history, albeit for the wrong reasons, by conceding the most expensive overs in the tournament’s history.

Several bowlers have endured the ignominy of conceding 30+ runs in a single over. The initial record was set in IPL 2010 when Ravinder Bopara, playing for Punjab, conceded 33 runs to Chris Gayle (25 runs) and Manoj Tiwary (2 runs) for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Bopara’s tally included six wides.

This record has since been surpassed multiple times. Parvinder Awana, playing for Kings XI Punjab in 2014, suffered at the hands of Suresh Raina, who smashed two sixes and five consecutive boundaries (including a no-ball) for a total of 35 runs.

Daniel Sams of Mumbai Indians holds the record for the most expensive over by a foreign bowler, conceding 35 runs (34 runs plus a no-ball) to Pat Cummins of KKR, who hit four sixes and two fours. Harshal Patel of Royal Challengers Bangalore also conceded 37 runs in an over to Ravindra Jadeja in 2021, including five sixes, a four, and a no-ball.

However, the current record for the most expensive over belongs to Prashant Parameswaran. In IPL 2011, Chris Gayle, then playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, smashed 36 runs off Parameswaran’s bowling (for Kochi Tuskers Kerala), which increased to 37 runs with the addition of a no-ball. This highlights the intense pressure and the occasional devastating power displayed in the IPL.
