**COIMBATORE, March 22, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu government announced ambitious plans Saturday to ensure the state’s electricity self-sufficiency until 2030. Minister for Electricity, Excise, and Prohibition V. Senthilbalaji revealed that the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) will undertake significant power generation projects totaling 25,500 MW.
These projects include 7,000 MW of thermal power plants, 16,500 MW from pumped storage projects, and 2,000 MW from battery storage. The minister emphasized that these initiatives will fully address the state’s power needs for the next five years. He also stated that Tamil Nadu currently possesses adequate power capacity, with additional contracted supply to meet peak summer demands. Any power disruptions, he clarified, are likely due to localized maintenance issues.
In other news from Coimbatore, Minister Senthilbalaji also highlighted a successful private job fair. The event attracted 295 companies, offering over 20,000 job vacancies. Including pre-registrations, approximately 4,000 additional candidates participated.
