Fri Mar 21 19:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Lucknow Police Kill Rape-Murder Suspect in Encounter
**Lucknow, March 22, 2025** – Ajay Dwivedi, a suspect in the rape and murder of a woman in Lucknow, was killed in a police encounter on Friday evening. Dwivedi and his brother, Dinesh, allegedly abducted the woman, who had arrived in Lucknow from Varanasi on March 18th, and took her to a mango orchard in Malihabad. There, they attempted to rape her; when she resisted, they strangled her to death.
Dinesh was arrested Friday morning following electronic surveillance. Dwivedi, however, fled. Later that evening, police located him in Mahmood Nagar. According to DCP (Lucknow West) Vishwajit Shrivastava, Dwivedi opened fire on police, prompting a retaliatory shooting that resulted in his death. He was declared dead at a local hospital. A reward of Rs 1 lakh had been offered for his arrest. The investigation continues, with further legal proceedings underway. Dinesh, a tempo driver, remains in custody.
