Fri Mar 21 19:26:29 UTC 2025: ## Modi to Visit Sri Lanka on April 5th, Commence Work on Joint Solar Power Project

**Colombo, Sri Lanka** – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sri Lanka on April 5th, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced in Parliament on Friday. The visit aims to finalize agreements made during President Dissanayake’s trip to Delhi last year, according to Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath. The visit coincides with the planned commencement of construction on a joint India-Sri Lanka solar power plant in Trincomalee.

The 50-megawatt (stage 1) and 70-megawatt (stage 2) solar plant at Sampur, Trincomalee, will be a joint venture between the Ceylon Electricity Board and India’s National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). This marks a shift from earlier plans for a coal-fired power plant at the same location. The agreement for the solar project was reached last month, Health Minister Nalinda Jayathissa confirmed.

President Dissanayake attributed PM Modi’s visit to the current political stability in Sri Lanka.
