Fri Mar 21 21:30:00 UTC 2025: ## BCCI Announces New Rules for IPL 2025: Two New Balls in Second Innings, Impact Player Rule Continues

**Mumbai, March 20, 2025** – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced significant rule changes for the upcoming IPL 2025 season at a captains’ meeting in Mumbai today. The most notable change is the introduction of a second new ball in the second innings of evening matches.

The new rule aims to mitigate the impact of dew, a frequent factor in evening IPL matches, which makes the ball wet and difficult for bowlers to grip. This often leads to an increase in runs scored in the second innings. The second new ball will be introduced after the 11th over, but the final decision on whether to change the ball rests with the umpires, who will assess the amount of dew present. This rule will not apply to daytime matches.

The BCCI has also decided to continue the impact player rule, introduced in IPL 2023, after receiving positive feedback from all ten team captains. Furthermore, the saliva ban has been lifted.

The IPL 2025 season is scheduled to begin on March 22nd at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
