Fri Mar 21 20:17:15 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Launches Web Portal to Combat Fetal Sex Determination

**New Delhi, March 22, 2025** – Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh launched a new online portal aimed at curbing the illegal practice of fetal sex determination. The portal allows citizens to file complaints against violators of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC&PNDT) Act of 1994.

The initiative comes in response to the persistent issue of sex-selective abortions in India. Minister Singh emphasized Delhi’s role as the nation’s capital in leading the fight against gender-based discrimination. The portal will register complaints and ensure registered medical clinics comply with legal requirements to prevent misuse of ultrasound technology for sex determination.

Penalties for violating the Act include punishment for medical practitioners (gynecologists, sonologists, geneticists, etc.) and owners of related clinics and laboratories. In 2024-2025, Delhi conducted 627 inspections resulting in 70 show-cause notices, 13 suspensions, 53 registration cancellations, and the sealing of 22 ultrasound machines.

The portal currently lists 1,752 registered centers in Delhi, including diagnostic centers, clinics, and hospitals. Its launch coincided with a workshop attended by health officials, doctors, and NGOs to strengthen the implementation of the PC&PNDT Act. Minister Singh expressed confidence that the portal will improve Delhi’s sex ratio and further the fight against gender inequality.
