**Mysuru, March 22, 2025** – A man accused in a dacoity case was shot in the leg by police on Friday night after attempting to escape custody while being taken to a crime scene. Adarsh, alias Murugan, one of three suspects arrested in connection with a January 20th robbery outside Mysuru, attacked police officers with a broken beer bottle, according to police.
The robbery involved a group of masked men assaulting occupants of a Kerala businessman’s car and stealing cash. While being escorted to the scene of the crime for a mahazar (inspection) on Friday, Adarsh seized the opportunity to attack two officers, a sub-inspector and a constable, in a bid to escape. Police claim the attack was intended to kill the officers.
In response, one officer fired a warning shot, while another, Circle Inspector Deepak, shot Adarsh in the leg to prevent his escape. Both the injured officers and Adarsh were taken to K.R. Hospital. A case has been registered against Adarsh at Jayapura police station, and police note he has a history of multiple past offenses. The incident occurred near Gopalapura village on the Mysuru-Mananthavadi road. Superintendent of Police N. Vishnuvardhan visited the scene.
