Fri Mar 21 20:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Unseasonal Rains Lash Dhanbad, Cause Widespread Waterlogging
**DHANBAD, March [Date]:** Unseasonal heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc in Dhanbad over the past two days, causing widespread waterlogging and disrupting daily life. The downpour, which began early Monday morning and continued intermittently throughout the day, saw streets submerged in knee-deep water in several areas. The intensity of the rain, even exceeding 20 millimeters in the last 24 hours, reduced visibility and created a night-like atmosphere during the day.
The incessant rain, which is expected to continue until March 23rd, has led to a significant drop in temperature, with the maximum reaching only 26 degrees Celsius. The waterlogging has exposed the city’s poor drainage system, with overflowing drains spilling garbage onto the streets and emitting foul odors. Commuters faced significant challenges, with many office-goers on bikes spending the entire day drenched. Even eight-lane roads, such as the one near Asarfi Hospital, were inundated.
While the unseasonal rain has caused considerable disruption for city dwellers, it is considered beneficial for farmers. Lalit Das, a senior scientist at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Baliapur, stated that the rain is timely for wheat crops, enhancing grain development and benefiting vegetables. He also added that the rain will prevent potential damage to mango blossoms that could have been caused by strong winds or hail.
